In Loving Memory

Sherman Doss

October 1, 1955  —  April 14, 2026

“He worked with purpose, served with honor,
loved without measure, and left this world
a far richer place than he found it.”
Proverbs 22:1 — A good name is more desirable than great riches.

His Story

A Life Built on Discipline, Faith & Purpose

Sherman Doss was born on October 1, 1955, in the great city of Chicago, Illinois — a city as bold and layered as the man himself. From his earliest years, Sherman demonstrated a rare combination of intellectual drive and moral courage that would define every chapter of his remarkable life.

Before he ever wore a suit to the boardroom, Sherman wore the uniform of the United States Army, serving his country with distinction as a Paralegal from 1982 to 1985. Those years of service forged in him a sense of duty and an unshakeable integrity that never left him. He understood, long before life made it plain, that the foundation of any great endeavor is the willingness to sacrifice for something larger than yourself.

Returning from service, Sherman channeled that same disciplined spirit into the pursuit of excellence in higher education. He earned his Master of Finance degree from North Central University, going on to build a distinguished career in accounting — a career grounded in precision, trust, and an unwavering commitment to doing things the right way.

Yet for all his professional accomplishments, Sherman’s truest joy lived far closer to home. He was the cornerstone of his family — a devoted husband to Sherly, a proud and present father to Frank, Sherman Jr., and Sandra, and a doting grandfather to four grandchildren who will carry his laughter and his lessons forward into a future he helped shape.

Sherman was a man of many dimensions. He loved the quiet strategy of chess, the open fairways of a golf course, the energy of a good workout, and the freedom of travel that widened his worldview. But perhaps most telling of his character was his quiet commitment to his faith community in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood, where he gave of his time and heart to serve those living in poverty and without shelter. He asked for no recognition. He simply showed up.

Sherman Doss lived 70 years with intention. He led by example, loved deeply, and departed this earth on April 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy not written in monuments, but in the lives he touched — one act of kindness, one prayer, one move on the chessboard at a time.
